Why was the Eiffel Tower built?

Why was the Eiffel Tower built?

The Eiffel Tower is among the most beautiful buildings in all of the world. It has made its way on the list of the 7 Wonders of the World. Although the Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognized buildings in the world, many do not know its past and why the Eiffel Tower was built. The Eiffel Tower was mainly built for the World Exhibition (sometimes called Paris Exposition) of 1889. This date celebrates the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. The purpose of building this structure was to showcase to the world the advancement of technology and beauty in France. The Eiffel Tower seemed like the perfect idea. Many ideas were submitted to a council that would oversee this exhibition. When the Eiffel Tower design was submitted by its designer, Gustave Eiffel, it immediately grew in popularity. This structure showed great care and design. However, there were many opponents who stated it would be against the traditional French culture and would only cause a distraction in Europe. Another reason the Eiffel was built was for scientific progress. Although few realized it, the Eiffel Tower would become a prominent structure in terms of science. Many experiment with temperature, pressure and pendulums were performed atop the building. Moreover, the most important and still everlasting purpose of the Eiffel Tower was its use as a radio transmission tower. Many radio transmission experiments have been conducted atop the Eiffel Tower. In fact, without his use, the Eiffel Tower may not be around today. It was proposed to be demolished but was spared because of its promising future as a radio tower. The Eiffel Tower still stands today as one of the world's most famous structures of all time.

How Tall is the Eiffel Tower?

How tall is the Eiffel Tower?

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognized buildings in the world. Its structure eloquent, yet simple. Its beauty is unmatched at night and it has drawn nearly a quarter of a billion visitors since its creation. In fact, when the Eiffel Tower was built. It was the tallest building in all of the world. When the Eiffel Tower was first built in 1889, it stood an amazing 312.27 meters tall. At this time, the Eiffel Tower had a French flag on top of the building and was at one of its shortest distances tall. However later on, the Eiffel Tower had a radio transmission antenna on top of the building to receive and send radio waves. It was recorded to be 317.96 meters tall during 1991. Not only did the antenna increase the height of the Eiffel Tower but it saved it from demolition. Twenty years after the erection of the Eiffel Tower, it was wanted by many French citizens to be demolished for scrap metal. However, due to its function as a radio tower it was kept. However, later in 1994, the recorded height was 319.70 meters. This height was nearly 2 meters higher than the previous recording. In 2000, the height was recorded at 324 meters. Part of the reason the height of the Eiffel Tower has changed is the fluctuation of metal size with temperature. Metal can either expand or contract depending on the temperature. Also, improvements to the building have contributed to a fluctuation of height. However, despite the Eiffel Tower height it was only the tallest building in the world for nearly half a century once the Chrysler Building the United States towered above the Eiffel Tower. Nevertheless, the Eiffel Tower is visible nearly throughout most of Paris and remains an icon for the rest of the world.
